Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd & Saturday 4th April 2009 Wick Village Hall Look no Hans! by John Chapman & Michael Pertwee Peter Fisher is the manager of the West Berlin office of a British car company, where selling British cars is like selling pork chops at a bar mitzvah! He is also an undercover agent for British Security of Industry a role for which he is singularly ill equipped. With his wife Monica due to fly home to England for a short break, Fisher is planning to spend his birthday quietly, but when Monica's plane is delayed she returns home, followed in rapid succession by Heidi, Fisher's mistress, Mitzi, a voluptuous singing telegram girl, Cadwallader from British Security of Industry who is awaiting the arrival from the East of Hans, a top industrial spy, and Tregunter Jones, a rather butch Rep. from Midland Motors. Amid a great many comings and goings and considerable confusion, the elusive Hans does finally make a brief, if somewhat unusual, appearance, dangling from a helicopter! When Rex Wiltshire, owner of the Primrose Glade hotel, is found dead on the crazy paving outside his property all the guests and staff at the hotel become suspects in a particularly perplexing and unusual case! It all seems to be a straightforward event but as the evening progresses all sorts of things that have been bellow the surface rise. The vicar has lost his faith and is now a drunk. Sally had arrived home to find her husband spanking a strange woman. Gloria is at her wits end caring for a demanding old mother and holding down a job. New to the committee is Angela the new infant school teacher - who has alarmed some of the other women by accepting a lift with village tearaway Raymond. Marjorie arrives a pays a lot of attention to Angela. Angela mistakes Majorie's partner Jack for a man. At the end of the meeting Marjorie takes Angela home and the Vicar ends up in a passionate clinch with Sally. On the day of the fete everything seems to go wrong. The bouncy castle starts defating, the floats get stuck, the wrong prizes are taken for the childrens bran-tub dip. The vicar has ended his affair with Sally but has been reported to the Bishop. Angela has ended her affair with Marjorie and informs Marjorie that she is pregnant by Raymond. There is much coming and going and further mishaps - but by the end of the play, Angela is knocked down in a fight and in her distress it is Marjorie she wants. Sally and her husband leave the village for Scotland. Gloria confesses that she killed her mother when things got too much The Vicar's wife, Pauline says that she will stand by him when the Bishop calls. Their plans however are thwarted by the appearance of unexpected visitors in the shape of George and Mary Ticklewell, distant relations of Janet's. Max and Suzy go to extreme lengths to try to fool the Ticklewells into believing that Suzy is Max's wife, only to find that they too have murder plans of their own. Thus begins an intriguing round of plot and counter-plot involving bodies disappearing and re-appearing. A great thriller superbly laced with comedy with a final satisfying finish. As events unfold, Rodney finds that perhaps Sherlock has yet again been twarted and that other forces have been at work. Has been reasonably happy with his second wife Ruth. To collect material for his new book. He invites Madame Acarti. A local medium, to conduct a seance at their home. Unfortunately. Elvira returns from death and promptly proceeds to make life exceedingly uncomfortable for Charles. As Elvira visible and audible only to Charles, he has great difficulty convincing Ruth that he is neither mad nor drunk. Elvira is wilfully determined to get Charles to herself for ever and so arranges several "accidents", culmating with her tampering with the car. Ironically it is Ruth who drives first and joins her rival. Now plaqued by two jealous squabbling spirits, Charles enlists the help of Madame Acarti, who finally disembodies the spirits but cannot quite exorcize them. Charles bids them farewell, saying he will escape forever by putting water between himself and his two wifes, who are left petualantly tearing the house apart. Sir Brian doesn't have many admirers, this rich and very wealthy man of Stocksley Grange has many who dislike him. There's Catchpole, the butler, who doesn't enjoy working for Sir Brian. There's Sylvia, Sir Brian's long-suffering wife. Mimsie with whom Sir Brian is very attracted to. Author Ruth Conrad who feels let down and cheated by her publisher Sir Brian, and Guy who is set to inherit Stocksley Grange on Sir Brian's demise! Sir Brian is found dead in the billiard room...murdered by one of the suspects. It's between themselves and the audience to decide who has done the terrible deed! Roland Dickerby is the owner of a health spa, his main job is not only to keep his clients happy (such as the under-fed Mr. Hooper) but also his wife Julia, his domineering mother-in-law Olivia and the bird-loving Vanessa. If this wasn't enough Roland is suddenly confronted by the shocking and surprising resurrection of Julia's long since deceased ex-husband Sidney! Roland is caught right in the middle as he tries desperately hard to conceal conman Sidney from his ex-wife (now Roland's wife of course!), keep the ever suspicious mother-in-law at bay, Stop Mr. Hooper going in places he shouldn't, tell Vanessa ridiculous stories about Pigeons to cover his tracks, and also tripping over himself trying to explain why a certain Mr McTavish is exposing himself, and why there is a Camel in the nearby swimming pool! But this is no ordinary office. Carol is dead! Killed in a car crash, and the office processes applicants for the afterlife. Carol learns that the aim is to cause the maximum amount of discomfort for the individual. This is a language she understands! She offers to devise a system which will prolong the whole process and so accepts a permanent position in the office as the alternative is so dreary, but this is not good news for anyone about to enter.....A biting satire on modern bureaucracy. Relations and friends of the family are invited along to share the caviar and to toast this odd-ball couple with champagne. However a creaking floorboard and the odd behaviour of the party members makes the day most memorable - for all the wrong reasons. As the celebrations progress, the tangled web of their lives is skilfully revealed to the audience. This acerbic comedy is both ammusing and touching in it's shrewd characterisation. She accidently spills brandy on her porter's trousers; the poor man soon finds himself trouserless behind a screen, desperately worried by the return of Etienne, who is disguised as the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Further complications ensue when Etienne's lover "Esmeralda" appears and recognises the porter - now disguised as Sophie's aged aunt - as her husband. All is finally resolved - or is it? Clothilde, the long-suffering maid, provides the final twist to this delightful comedy.
